TROPICAL THROUGH TIME
The beginnings of the Tropical go back to dates before the 60s. In 1963 it already functioned as a party room and restaurant with bathrooms and showers during the day. It was from June 1964, when it became an establishment for the gauche divine, thus becoming a mythical icon of chic entertainment venues between the late 60s and early 70s in Barcelona.
Dance contests are remembered in which the winners were awarded with lithographs by Picasso or Joan Miró or parties in which, as happened in the morning of 1968, a yellow submarine emerged from the sea in Gavà Mar while the Beatles' notes sounded. No one doubts in attributing to the Tropical a determining influence on the design and approach of the mythical Bocaccio on Muntaner Street.
THE 70's AND 80's
In 1972 the establishment underwent a new transformation. The Tropical nightclub is inaugurated with a new image and the premiere of a logo that would become famous, the sticker that customers would stick on the back of their cars. Tropical was a very famous nightclub at that time, concerts and performances of great caliber were held with artists from the national and international scene such as Joan Manuel Serrat, El Último de la Fila, La Frontera, Gabinete Caligari, Loquillo y los Trogloditas, Los Negativos, Men G or the great Chavela Vargas. Innumerable private parties were also organized, such as the one held by Queen or Sade, after a performance in Barcelona in August 1986.
THE 90'S AND UP TO 2017
In 1988, the old mythical Tropical nightclub was demolished, to become a new project devised by Oriol Regás, former manager of the UPDOWN nightclub, in which the idea was to build a high-quality complex by the sea, which will consist of Beach Club, Chiringuito and Restaurant with large rooms for events and celebrations. The cost of the complex exceeds 1,200 million pesetas. Three years after opening, the company that owns and manages the complex goes bankrupt, coinciding with the 1992 crisis.
Since 1992 it has been managed by the La Masia de Esplugas Group for almost 20 years and Tropical has become a regular restaurant for countless figures from the world of football and politics. In 2017 it was renovated again, giving rise to a new Tropical that you can know right now.
